Treatment of Malignant Melanoma with Hydroxyurea1

Hydroxyurea was administered in a clinical trial to fourteen patients with documented disseminated malignant melanoma. The drug was not found to be useful as the sole agent in this neoplastic disorder in the dosage regimen outlined. The response of three patients receiving radiotherapy to metastatic brain lesions in combination with hydroxyurea was encouraging enough to warrant a further evaluation of this type of combination therapy.
